Artists Statement
My art production evolves from subjective experiences; Short emotional snapshots. I use various subject matter as metaphors to explore different themes. The conceptual expansion of the initial idea will determine which material or media I use. Drawing is central to this process and is ever present as part of the planning process. My work to date has included performance, installation, photography, painting and drawing. I am currently working on a new collection of paintings and drawings based on the human body.
My work has been exhibited at the RHA, Ormond Multimedia Centre and The Bonnington Gallery, Nottingham. I have been awarded artists’ residencies in France and the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. Corporate commissions include a series of paintings for the EIQA, Dublin.
The Studio
Abbey Art Studios is a Creative Business based in Louth. It is a working sculpture studio that offers sculpture, drawing and painting classes to Children and Adults.
In 1998 a diary entry outlined the concept of Abbey Art Studios. I had a vision of a space that provided all the studio facilities for a sculpture practice but also to accommodate others that had an interest in learning new art skills.
It is a working art studio for my personal practice, undertaking commissions and it offers space to acquire new art skills in a relaxed, fun environment for all ages.
